Privacy Policy: Motherboard: System Wars
Effective date:
This policy explains what information the mobile game Motherboard: System Wars (the "game") collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the game on Android, distributed through Google Play. You can open this policy at any time from the game, at Settings → Privacy → Privacy policy.
1. Who we are
The game is made by Swift Orbit Studios LLC ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
For any privacy question or request, email privacy@swiftorbitstudios.com.
2. The short version
- The game is single-player. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no chat and no multiplayer.
- We never ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location.
- The game has no ads and no in-app purchases, and it does not collect your device's advertising ID.
- If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the game sends no analytics or crash reports at all. It checks this on your device each time it starts (section 6).
- Everywhere else, with your permission, the game sends gameplay analytics and crash reports to Google Firebase to help us improve it. These are linked to a random ID for your installation of the game, not to your name.
- This is off until you choose. When you first open the game, it asks whether you want to share analytics and crash reports. Nothing is sent until you choose, and nothing is sent if you choose not to share.
- You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share analytics and crash reports. The game works the same either way.
- You can see and copy your ID, reset it, ask for a copy of the data linked to it, and ask us to delete that data.
- Your game progress and settings stay on your device.
3. Information we collect
Sections 3.1 to 3.3 apply only while Share analytics and crash reports is on. It is always off in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom (section 6).
3.1 Gameplay events
The game records when you start a campaign mission or skirmish match and when a match ends in a win or a loss. Each event includes:
- which mission or skirmish map it was;
- for a win, how long the match lasted and a match score;
- for a loss, how the match was lost (for example, your base was destroyed).
3.2 Information collected automatically by Google Analytics for Firebase
Google Analytics for Firebase also collects standard usage and device information, such as:
- a random app-instance ID created for your installation of the game;
- when the game is first opened, when a session starts, which screens are shown, and how long the game is in use;
- device model, operating-system version, game version, and language settings;
- your approximate location (such as country, region or city), which Google works out from your IP address. The game does not ask for, and cannot access, your device's location;
- how the game was installed (for example, from which Google Play page).
We tell Google that this data may not be used for advertising or ad personalisation.
3.3 Crash reports
If the game crashes, Firebase Crashlytics collects a crash report: technical details of the error, the device model and operating-system version, the game version, device state at the time of the crash (for example available memory), and an identifier for your installation. It also collects basic information about game sessions, which is used to work out how often the game crashes. Crash reports are labelled with your app-instance ID, so that one request can cover both your analytics data and your crash reports.
3.4 Information that stays on your device
Your settings (including your choice about analytics and crash reports), saved matches, campaign progress and tutorial progress are stored only on your device. We do not receive them, and the game does not include them in Android device backups. Uninstalling the game removes them.
3.5 Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, postal address, account details, payment information, contacts, photos, videos, audio recordings, files, messages, precise location, or your device's advertising ID. The game has no user-generated content and no communication with other players.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and we use it only to answer you.
4. How we use information
We use the information in section 3 to:
- understand how the game is played, for example which missions are too hard or where players stop playing, so we can improve balance and design;
- find and fix crashes and other technical problems;
- respond to your requests, including requests for a copy of your data or for deletion.
We use the random ID only to support the internal operation of the game in these ways. We do not use it to contact you, to show you ads, or to build a profile of you for advertising. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Legal bases
In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. We do not collect analytics or crash reports from the game while you are there (section 6). The only personal information we handle about you is what you send us by email.
In Switzerland. We collect gameplay analytics and crash reports only with your consent, which you give by turning on Share analytics and crash reports. The same applies if you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom and the check in section 6 did not detect it. You can withdraw your consent at any time by turning the setting off. Withdrawing does not affect what was collected before.
Everywhere else. Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interests in keeping the game stable and improving it. The game still asks you first, and you can object at any time with the same setting.
Emails and requests. We handle privacy requests to comply with our legal obligations. We answer other messages on the basis of our legitimate interests in responding to the people who write to us.
Sharing is optional. You do not have to share analytics or crash reports, and the game works the same whether the setting is on or off.
6. Your choices
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. In this policy, "the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom" means the European Union (including its outermost regions), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the United Kingdom, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
Each time the game starts, it checks on your device whether you appear to be in one of these places. It uses your SIM card's country, your mobile network's country, your time zone and your language-and-region setting. If any of them points to one of these places, the game does not start its analytics and crash-reporting services at all, and Share analytics and crash reports stays off and cannot be turned on. This check happens only on your device. Its result is never sent to us or anyone else.
If the check cannot tell that you are in one of these places, for example on a device with no SIM card whose settings point elsewhere, the game asks you as it does everywhere else, and sends nothing unless you agree. If the check itself fails on your device, the game treats you as being in one of these places.
Everywhere else: your first choice. When you first open the game, it asks whether you want to share analytics and crash reports, and links to this policy. Nothing is sent until you choose, and nothing is sent if you choose not to share. If you start the game outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom after using it there, the game follows the choice you made before, or asks you first if you have not chosen yet.
Changing your choice. Go to Settings → Privacy and switch Share analytics and crash reports on or off. When you turn it off, the game stops analytics and crash reporting immediately. Crash reports recorded on your device after you turn it off are deleted, not sent. Your choice is remembered when you close and reopen the game. Turning the setting off does not delete data already collected. To have that data deleted, see section 9.
Your Analytics ID. Go to Settings → Privacy → Analytics ID to see your app-instance ID (while the setting is on).
- Copy puts the ID on your clipboard so you can include it in a request to us.
- Reset clears the analytics data stored on your device and gives you a new ID. Copy your ID before you reset it: we cannot find data linked to your old ID unless you tell us what it was.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the game also gives you a new ID.
7. Who we share information with
We use Google as our service provider for analytics and crash reporting:
- Google Analytics for Firebase (gameplay analytics);
- Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports);
- Google Cloud BigQuery, where we keep an export of our analytics data in a project we control.
Google processes this information on our behalf under its data-processing terms. We have turned off the Google Analytics settings that would let Google use this data for its own products and services or for advertising, and the setting that would link it to Google accounts. You can read Google's privacy information at https://policies.google.com/privacy and about how Google uses information from apps that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
We do not sell your information or share it with anyone else for their own purposes. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a merger or sale of our business, in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
8. How long we keep information
- Event-level and user-level analytics data in Google Analytics: 2 months, after which only aggregated reports remain.
- Our BigQuery export of analytics data: each day's data is deleted automatically about 14 months after it is collected.
- Crash reports in Firebase Crashlytics: for a limited period set by Google, currently about 90 days, after which they are deleted automatically.
- Emails you send us: up to 24 months after we have finished handling your message or request, unless we need them longer to comply with the law or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Google may keep deleted data in its backup systems for a short time after these periods before it is removed permanently.
9. Your rights and how to use them
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, to withdraw your consent, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
Because we do not know who you are, we can only find your information by its Analytics ID (section 6). Include it in any request about game data. If you have reset your ID or reinstalled the game and did not keep the old ID, we cannot locate the data linked to it.
To ask for a copy of your data, email privacy@swiftorbitstudios.com and include your Analytics ID. We will send you a copy of the data linked to that ID in a common electronic format.
To ask us to delete your data, email privacy@swiftorbitstudios.com and include your Analytics ID. We will ask Google Analytics to delete the analytics data linked to that ID, delete the matching records from our BigQuery export, and delete the crash reports linked to that ID. We will confirm to you when we have processed your request.
- Deleted data disappears from Google Analytics reports within about 72 hours. Google then removes it from its systems on its own schedule, which can take up to about two months.
- Deleted records in our BigQuery export stay in Google's automatic backups for up to about two weeks before they are removed permanently.
For any other request, email the same address and include your Analytics ID where the request concerns game data.
How quickly we respond. We will respond within one month of receiving your request. If a request is complex and the law that applies to you allows more time, we may take longer, and we will tell you why.
10. Children
The game is made for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country).
Analytics and crash reports are off until someone turns them on, and they cannot be turned on in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. If you are under the age at which you can agree to this yourself where you live, please leave Share analytics and crash reports off unless a parent or guardian agrees.
A parent or guardian who believes their child has turned the setting on can turn it off on the device and email us the child's Analytics ID so that we can delete the data.
11. International transfers
We are based in the United States. When the setting is on, information goes from the game directly to Google, which may process it in the United States and other countries. Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Google's data-processing terms also include the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, with their UK and Swiss adaptations, which apply if that certification cannot be relied on.
12. Security
Data sent from the game to Google is encrypted in transit. We limit access to our analytics and crash-reporting accounts to people who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
13. Additional information for United States residents
When the setting is on, we collect the categories described in section 3: identifiers (the app-instance ID), internet or other electronic network activity (gameplay and usage events), approximate geolocation, and device and crash information. We collect them from the game on your device, through Google's services, for the purposes in section 4, and keep them for the periods in section 8.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. We do not collect sensitive personal information. You may ask to access, correct or delete your information as described in section 9, and we will not treat you differently for doing so.
Do Not Track. The game is not a web browser and does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not allow other companies to do so through the game.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at the same address and in the game, and update the effective date above. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, for example if a future version of the game adds new kinds of data, we will tell you in the game or on the game's store page before the change takes effect.
