The four pictures on Motherboard's page are frames from real matches. We built a tool inside the game that records real in-game photo and video, with or without the HUD in shot. This tooling helps us:
Produce action-packed in-game cinematics using real gameplay footage
Develop player tutorials with honest visuals
Rapidly iterate on design
Build promotional content like teasers, trailers, and this devlog!
None of the four is cropped, staged or recolored. They are scaled down to fit the page and that is all that was done to them. What you see is what you get.
Three of the four are the same board, further into the same run. The fourth is a different board, which we featured in the capture set to show some variety in the levels.
The first board has a hard vertical running down its right edge and a void in the top corner, so the two sides spend the match either side of a gap.
The second runs power rails floor to ceiling down its right side, which gives it a spine the first one does not have.
Neutral nodes encourage base expansion, and bonus capturables provide income and bonuses. Capturing and controlling these is key to victory.
